I have always enjoyed drawing, painting, reading
and writing since a young age, so it was natural for me to eventually
lean towards this line of work.
It began in 1993 with a book purchased from
the bargain bin at CompUsa. The book caught my eye, I purchased it
and have never stopped learning. The book? HTML by Laura LeMaye. Unfortunately
this book is no longer in print, but I also use The
Complete Reference HTML & XHTML by Thomas A. Powell
I look back now at some of my first websites
and I laugh. I made every mistake
a newbie web designer could or would make. Yes, I have learned some
things the hard way, but I wouldn't change it for anything. I have
sincerely enjoyed every step of the way and I continue to read, read,
read, and learn more every day as the world of coding changes just
as fast as the new computer you bought two months ago and is now "outdated"....!
It can be a great challenge but one that I truly enjoy.
After building a few basic websites, i became
tired of scouring the web to find just the right graphics to use.
Many of the free graphics sites allowed you to use their graphics,
on the condition that you linked the credit back to their site. That
sounded fair, but I wanted to make my own graphics. I did some research
on how these graphics were created and eventually obtained my own
copies of Adobe PhotoShop
and Illustrator .
After playing with these programs for a while,
I was absolutely enthralled at the limitless pieces of art that a
person could create. I have never stopped being amazed!
I continued to build sites on the side, while
working a regular job for someone else fulltime. Then in 2002, I stumbled
upon a job as a graphic artist for an apparel company. The experience
I gained through that job was to me, priceless. It was then that I
decided to get into the web design full time and have never looked
back.
